Agape International Spiritual Center
Sacred Service Saturday
Ignite the Light Within!!
Agape International Spiritual Center hosts its 20th annual Sacred Service Saturday, “Twenty Years of Love in Action—Ignite the Light Within.” The spirit of sacred service is contagious, so much so that for the first time other spiritual centers will be igniting the light within their communities as well: Guidance Center for Spiritual Living will be joining us and Unity Church in Maui will be hosting their own satellite experience of Sacred Service Saturday. We’re inviting all of our Love-streamers and other spiritual centers to join this movement in consciousness by hosting your own local Sacred Service Saturday. You can contact our team at actionagape@agapelive for more information.
I invite all of you to join me and the hundreds of your Agape brothers and sisters in this heart-expanding way of putting your spiritual practices into compassionate action as we contribute to over 30 projects throughout greater Los Angeles.
Following is a list of the projects from which you may choose that which speaks to your heart. Or if you’re feeling in an especially surrendered state of being, just select “surprise” and let the fundamental goodness of the universe make that selection for you!
So mark your calendar now and meet us in the Agape parking lot at 7 am on June 29th.
The Sacred Service Saturday team and I look forward to seeing you then.
Peace and richest blessings,
Michael Bernard Beckwith
Founder and Spiritual Director
The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.
Love is, above all, the gift of oneself.
Jean Anouilh (1910 – 1987)
There is no higher religion than human service. To work for the common good is the greatest creed.
Woodrow Wilson (1856 – 1924)
I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.
Ettiene De Grellet
No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.
Aesop (620 BC – 560 BC), The Lion and the Mouse
Service … is love in action, love “made flesh”; service is the body, the incarnation of love. Love is the impetus; service the act, and creativity the result with many by-products.
Sarah Patton Boyle, U.S. civil rights activist and author.
“Never Doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead
“Love cannot remain by itself– it has no meaning. Love has to be put into action and that action is service.” Mother Teresa
“Love grows by service.” Charlotte Perkins Gilman
I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.
If I have been of service, if I have glimpsed more of the nature and essence of ultimate good, if I am inspired to reach wider horizons of thought and action, if I am at peace with myself, it has been a successful day.
One act of beneficence, one act of real usefulness, is worth all the abstract sentiment in the world.
He who wishes to secure the good of others, has already secured his own.
JAMES M. BARRIE:
Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others, cannot keep it from themselves.
Kindness in words creates confidence.
Kindness in thinking creates profundity.
Kindness in giving creates love
MARIAN WRIGHT EDELMAN:
Service is what life is all about.
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.:
Everybody can be great… because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.
RALPH WALDO EMERSON:
It is one of the most beautiful compensations of life, that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.
We were born to unite with our fellow men, and to join in community with the human race.
GEORGE BERNARD SHAW:
I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the community, and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.\
The good we secure for ourselves is precarious and uncertain until it is secured for all of us and incorporated into our common life.
Come out of the circle of time
And into the circle of love.
